    Regional Training for You Know Different to be held in Chicago, August 7-8

    The National Youth Advocacy Coalition will hold a regional training for its award-winning HIV testing campaign, You Know Different, August 7-8 in Chicago, the agency announced today. Now in its fifth year, You Know Different is a social marketing campaign designed to encourage youth to get tested for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

    National HIV Testing Day is June 27

    Youth of all backgrounds, and especially young gay men of color, continue to be disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As we commemorate National HIV Testing Day on June 27, NYAC encourages all youth to "take the test; take control." For information about HIV testing in your state, visit www.hivtest.org.

    The National Youth Advocacy Coalition congratulates its founding executive director, Rea Carey, on being named executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

    Rea Carey has been named executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, the agency announced June 24. Greg Varnum, acting executive director for NYAC, issued the following statement:

    "We a thrilled for Rea; her commitment and significant contributions to LGBT causes is well-known and celebrated within our community. The Task Force has made an excellent choice in choosing Rea as its leader during these crucial times. Rea has remained a dear ally to the National Youth Advocacy Coalition, and we congratulate her today on her many achievements and eagerly look forward to working with her in the days ahead."

    NYAC extends application deadline for Best Practices Summit to July 3

    The National Youth Advocacy Coalition extended its application deadline for its first-ever Best Practices Summit to July 3, the agency announced today. The Summit, which will be held August 14-17 in Washington DC, is geared towards HIV prevention professionals who have best practices from the field to share. Youth leaders will be selected from every region of the nation to attend the summit and contribute to NYAC's National Best Practices in HIV Prevention publication.
